About "The Essentials of HIV"
“The Essentials of HIV” offers recent must-know information on HIV, including the Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U) concept, treatment (and treatment as prevention), testing, and other prevention strategies. Emphasis has been placed on the psychosocial dimensions of living with HIV in order to highlight the different realities of people living with the Virus.
The information presented in the brochure is relevant to all health care professionals and psychosocial workers who provide services to people living with HIV and those affected by HIV. “The Essentials” is also intended as a community-based resource to provide information to all people living with HIV, including those who have been diagnosed for several years and those who may have been diagnosed more recently, as well as their loved ones. It also includes tools for professionals who want to improve their intervention approaches so that they are safer and better tailored to the various key (or priority) populations who are currently disproportionately affected by HIV.
This guide was developed with the help of a number of community resources and was reviewed by clinicians as well as the INSPQ. It is adapted to the realities of Quebec and provides local and regional references that cover the entire province. It is an excellent complementary resource for existing professional practice guides. Quality information, written in an accessible manner, remains a major component in the support of people living with HIV and in the fight against stigmatization, which unfortunately continues to affect people living with HIV.
The Portail VIH/sida du Québec (PVSQ) and MIELS-Québec offer training sessions that expand on the various themes introduced in this guide. For more information about these free training sessions, contact the Portail VIH/sida du Québec (pvsq.org/formations or formations@pvsq.org) or MIELS-Québec (miels.org/professionnels or recherche@miels.org).
The digital version of “The Essentials of HIV” is always available for download, at no cost.
